The Institute of Public Health was established in 1990 following the appointment of Professor Jock Anderson from Scotland as Chair of Institute of Public Health.  Professor Tar-Ching Aw from Kent, UK is current Chair of the Department.

Institute of Public Health,a branch of medicine that is concerned with the health of the members of a community, municipality, or region. The emphasis in community medicine is on the early diagnosis of disease, the recognition of environmental and occupational hazards to good health, and the prevention of disease in the community.
